The secretary of Grace Nursing College in Machilipatnam district of Andhra Pradesh was arrested on Saturday for allegedly asking for sexual favours from a female student.
According to the reports, 42-year-old S Ramesh was arrested after a 22-year-old student filed a complaint against him. She alleged that the accused had been harassing her and asking her for sexual favours.
The Additional Superintendent of Police, M Sattibabu reportedly said, “Ramesh has been arrested under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013 and other sections of IPC including those related to outraging the modesty of woman, sexual harassment, and criminal intimidation.”
The accused Ramesh was also booked under the Scheduled Castes and the Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
The police reportedly informed that the accused allegedly attempted to sexually assault the victim in his chamber in July. He did that as she refused to fulfil his request of sexual favours. Later, the girl left the hostel.
On Saturday, the accused was produced before a local court which remanded him to custody. The chairperson of Andhra Pradesh Women Commission, V Padma, reportedly visited the college and had a word with the students.
