District collector of Ganjam (Odisha), Vijay Amruta Kulange has announced a cash prize of Rs 50,000 to anyone who can prove the existence of ghosts. He took this step to create awareness among the people and dispel the superstitious practices and witchcraft.

On Wednesday, Vijay reportedly said that as per his knowledge, ghosts don’t exist. Further, he said, “If anyone can prove the existence of ghosts or justify superstitious practices, I will reward that person with Rs 50,000.”

He also said, “No ailment is caused to any other person due to the practice of witchcraft. But a section of people considers that their relatives fall ill due to witchcraft. Instead of taking the person to the doctor, they go to black magicians.”

He suggested the public to take the sick people to the hospital instead of black magicians. He made the announcement after two recent witchcraft related incidents in the district.

According to the reports, suspecting witchcraft practice, the residents of Gopapur village pulled out teeth and forcibly fed human excreta to six people. Another incident was reported from Jagannath Prasad recently.

The police had reportedly arrested 35 and 10 people from Gopapur and Jagganath Prasad respectively.
