Truck driver made to cough up Rs 86,500 for violating traffic rules

A truck driver in Sambalpur district of Odisha was fined Rs 86,500 for violating different traffic rules.

According to the reports, Ashok Jadhav was fined on Tuesday, September 3. The picture of the challan went viral on social media on Saturday evening. Lalit Mohan Behera, regional transport officer Sambalpur reportedly said that the truck driver was fined Rs 5,000 for allowing an unauthorized person to drive; Rs 56,000 was charged for overloading with an excess of 18 tonnes; Rs 5,000 for driving without driving license, and Rs 20,000 was charged for carrying over-dimensional projections. Also, Rs 500 was charged for the general offense.

The driver reportedly paid Rs 70,000 after negotiations with the authorities for over five hours. The truck which belonged to a Nagaland based company BLA Infrastructure Private Limited was loaded with a JCB machine.

According to the reports, Odisha has grossed the highest penalty to the country under the new Motor Vehicle Act by collecting more than Rs 88 lakh.
