The Hush Post: In yet another first for the Sikh community, a Sikh has been hired as an anchor by a Pakistani news channel. Harmeet Singh, hailing from Pakistan’s minority Sikh community, has been hired by a Pakistani private news channel Public News.
The news channel posted on their official Twitter handle a video of Harmeet Singh with a caption: “Pakistan’s 1st Sikh News Anchor Harmeet Singh only on #PublicNews,” a report said.
Notably, recently another member of the Sikh community Manmeet Kaur had become the first female Sikh reporter of Pakistan. Pakistan media had taken another initiative by appointing Maavia Malik, a transgender, as a news anchor. This move had also created a buzz on the social media, the report said.
Several social media users lauded the news channel for this step. While several commented on Pakistan’s move to be more inclusive, others stated that it was ‘nice’ to see a Sikh man on a Pakistani channel. Here are some of the reactions the tweet garnered:
