BJP chief from Mehrauli district Azad Singh allegedly assaulted his wife Sarita Chaudhary on Thursday, who is an ex-south Delhi mayor. The incident happened after the poll-preparedness meeting with senior leader Prakash Javadekar.
After the incident, Azad Singh was removed from the post of president of Mehrauli district. According to the reports, both of them have some marital issues and Singh has filed a divorce from them. Party General Secretary Rajesh Bhatia reportedly said that a committee was formed to probe the incident.
“Singh had a dispute with his wife. Javadekar was present in the party office at the time of the incident,” said a BJP leader who witnessed the incident.
Singh reportedly said, “She first abused and attacked me so I pushed her in self-defense.”
“We have not received any complaint from anyone involved in the matter. Appropriate actions will be taken if a complaint is given to us,” said a Delhi police officer.
After his removal as the party president of Mehrauli district, Vikas Tanwar was appointed as the working president.
Javadekar, Union ministers Hardeep Singh and Nityanand Rai have been taking meetings of office bearers of the party’s 14 district units for the assembly polls scheduled next year.
