The Election Commission of India directed Eros Now to stop the online streaming of a web series on PM Narendra Modi on Saturday. EC gave the orders not to display any content related to the web series till further orders.
The Election Commission cited its April 10 direction banning the screening of any biopic subserving purposes of a political party or any individual entity related to it. Also, the material which has the potential to disturb the level playing field during elections should not be displayed, it said.
EC, after watching the trailer, said, “The web series showcases the different phases of Narendra Modi’s life- from his childhood to becoming a national leader. In view of the admitted facts and the material available on record, the web series is based on Modi, who besides being the PM, is also a candidate in the Lok Sabha elections. Therefore, the web series can’t be displayed.”
“You are hereby directed to stop forthwith the online streaming and remove all connected contents of the web series till further orders.”, it told Eros Now. It also ordered Eros Now to send a compliance report immediately.
EC has also finalized its view on the Vivek Oberoi starrer biopic on Narendra Modi. According to the reports, the view has been submitted to the Supreme Court in a sealed cover.
