The Hush Post: The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Congress leader and former union finance minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambram today. He was arrested from Chennai airport for violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act. He was away to London and had promised to come back. Immediately on landing, he was detained by the CBI. Now, he is being brought back to Delhi by the central agency.
Earlier, Supreme Court had declined to stay a summon order by the Enforcement Directorate against Karti in the INX money laundering case, this after the CBI remarked that he was influential.
On Monday, a Delhi court had sent S Bhaskaran, the Chartered Accountant of Karti to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the same case.
The case pertains to the approval given by the Foreign Investment Promotion Board for receipt of funds to INX Media, which took place when his father P Chidambaram was the finance Minister of the country. Karti is accused of taking a bribe of Rs 10 lakh in the INX media case.
After the probe, a complaint was lodged in the form of Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR), which happens to be an equivalent of an FIR, against Karti, INX Media and its directors — Indrani Mukerjea and Peter Mukherjea.
