In the wake of the ignominous defeat of the Congress party, Rahul Gandhi offered to resign as Congress President at the crucial CWC meet held on Saturday.
According to most TV news channels, Rahul Gandhi offered his resignation but the top Congress leadership has rejected the offer. The Congress Working Committee meeting had been called today to reflect on the Lok Sabha poll loss.

However, Congress spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala has clarified that reports of Congress President offering his resignation are incorrect. CWC meeting is still going on.
Former minister AK Antony and veteran Ahmed Patel opened the meeting to talk about what went wrong and how to fight back. Interestingly, Rahul Gandhi, UPA chief Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh, all present at the meeting, did not speak in the beginning.

Punjab CM Amarinder Singh and Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot were also present. Also present are AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, veterans P Chidambaram, Kumari Selja, Ambika Soni, Chhattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, and all general secretaries and states in-charge.
However, Rajasthan chief minister Kamal Nath was conspicuous by his absence. He has called a Cong MLA meet in Rajasthan on Sunday.

What political pandits are discussing on TV channels is that Rahul Gandhi must press with his resignation. Many TV reporters at the ground are quite clear that ultimately Rahul Gandhi will persist with his resignation.
