Recently Union Minister Smriti Irani distributed shoes among people of Amethi constituency. For her act of kindness, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused her of insulting the people of the region.

While addressing the crowd in Rae Bareli, Priyanka Gandhi said, “Coming and distributing shoes here is not an insult to Rahul Gandhi but to the people of Amethi and Rae Bareli because these people have never begged in front of anyone. She wanted to make a point that people here don’t have shoes to wear. ”

She also lashed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting any villages of his constituency in the last five years.

“There is a huge difference between ground reality and their publicity hype. I have been visiting UP; I have seen the pain of farmers who complain that stray cattle are destroying their fields, heard small traders complain of GST worries,as well as seen youth lament about joblessness. They have stopped development works in Amethi,” says Priyanka Gandhi.

Retaliating to the accusations, Irani said, “I have been an actor so it would be better if Priyanka ji stops her acting. As far as the plight of those poor people who did not have shoes to wear, if she has even a bit of shame she should go and see for herself what the truth is.”

Smriti Irani is contesting Lok Sabha elections against Congress President Rahul Gandhi from Amethi itself. It is the second time she is contesting against Rahul Gandhi.

Polling in Amethi and Rae Bareli is scheduled on May 16. Polling in Varanasi will be held in the last phase of elections on May 19.
