Video showing Punjab Congress MLA seeking funds to drop a Section 326 case goes viral, Brar denies charges

The video, purportedly shot in October 2017, was ‘forwarded’ by Punjab Aam Aadmi Party leader, Deepak Arora, who had approached the police on Saturday, alleging he had been receiving threats ever since.

The Hush Post: Congress MLA from Bhagapurana, Darshan Singh Brar has landed in the midst of a controversy after a video, which shows him allegedly asking for ‘funds’ to do away with a Section 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means) case, has gone viral on the social media.

In the video, Darshan Singh Brar is seen talking to someone over the speakerphone and asking him to “send funds (2 – 4 lakh) as a case under Section 326 has been registered”, reported News 18. “Arrests will follow in 10 days… a case under Section 326 is not a small thing. You do not worry, just send the money”, Brar is heard saying in the video.

The video, purportedly shot in October 2017, was ‘forwarded’ by Punjab Aam Aadmi Party leader, Deepak Arora, who had approached the police on Saturday, alleging he had been receiving threats ever since.

Brar’s son Kamaljeet Singh Brar has denied the allegations stating that the video was tampered with. It was just a light-hearted talk with a close relative, he said. The Congress too, has put its weight behind Brar, with Amritsar (West) MLA, Raj Kumar Verka stating that the opposition was trying to defame him according to News 18.

Meanwhile, the Shiromani Akali Dal has attacked the ruling Congress over the issue. Akali leaders have said that this video has exposed the Congress.
