Wrong side driving could mean 6 months of jail in Pune

The Hush Post: Pimpri Chinchwad police have started registering criminal cases against those driving on the wrong side.

About 20 criminal cases were registered against those erring by the Pimpri Chinchwad police. The police have booked them under Section 279 of the IPC (rashing and negligent driving).

On similar lines, the Pune police is also contemplating action against such traffic offenders. Those found driving on the wrong will have to shell out Rs 1,000 as fine and undergo an imprisonment of six months if found guilty.

This is the first such action against the traffic offenders anywhere in India from the safety point of view.

The traffic police of Chandigarh also is very strict with regard to drunken driving. There have been instances of impounding of vehicles of those driving drunk.
