Sand dealers would be given permits to supplying sand; movement of vehicles ferrying sand to be monitored; farmers to be allowed to draw sand from their fields
The Hush Post: In an important development, the Punjab government will now take the control of sand mines across the state and will supervise the sale of sand and aggregate stones. It was revealed by Punjab Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.
The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sub Committee set up to monitor the mining matters held in Chandigarh on Tuesday. This Sub Committee was formed to rein in the mining mafia. The committee is headed by Cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu.
Talking to the media persons Sidhu said that now tenders will be floated for the supply of sand and the real control of the sand mines will be directly with the state government. He said that now the sand dealers will only be able to supply the sand and pebbles and the government itself will control the sale of sand and pebbles (bajri).
Besides, to monitor the movement of sand and pebbles, the state government will register the trucks and other vehicles that ferry these commodities. He said that all such vehicles would be fitted with GPS system to monitor their movement and know their exact location.
In another important and big development, the Sub Committee on the mining matters has also decided to allow the farmers to draw sand from their farms for the construction purposes.
