2 killed, 11 injured in Tarn Taran blast; higher death toll feared

Two persons were killed and 11 others injured in a powerful explosion in Tarn Taran of Punjab on Saturday evening. The blast occurred during a Nagar Kirtan (religious procession) on the occasion of birth anniversary of Baba Deep Singh. The death toll is feared to rise.

According to the reports coming in, IG Amritsar Border Range has confirmed the death of two persons. 11 people were injured in the incident, he said.

Preliminary reports say the explosion took in a tractor trolley laden with crackers. Eyewitnesses said the explosion was so powerful that it ripped apart the trolley.

Reports say around 14-15 youths aged 18 to 19 years were aboard the trolley at the time of the incident.

The Nagar Kirtan was on its way from village Pahu Pind to Gurdwara Shri Tahla Sahib when the blast occurred. As the Nagar Kirtan reached village Dolke, the crackers kept in the trolley caught fire while people were lighting up the crackers. A powerful blast took place soon after.

People present at the spot rushed the injured to a nearby hospital. Condition of 3 injured is said to be serious.
