Close on to the heels of the gangrape of a 20-year-old student in Ludhiana, another minor was gangraped in Jalandhar’s Phillaur on Monday night. The incident took place when the 15-year-old girl, a migrant from Bihar, had gone out with her friend. The two were overpowered by three inebriated youths, two of whom gangraped her. The girl somehow managed to escape the clutches of the assaulters; however she fell into a pit, breaking her leg.
The victim is currently admitted to the Civil Hospital. Her mother revealed that girl had ventured out with 23-year-old Rajeev, a local, on Monday night at around 9:30pm. He took her to a deserted place in the jungle and started touching her inappropriately, she alleged. In the meantime, 3 inebriated youths reached the spot and assaulted Rajeev, tying him up with the girl’s chunni. Subsequently, two of them took turns to rape her. The woman further said that her child somehow managed to flee from the spot, but fell into a ditch, breaking her leg.
One Jaspal Singh of Gadha Road told media that Rajeev had come running towards him at around 10 pm on Monday with his hands tied behind his back and trousers half-down. He alarmed the locals who reached the spot and found the girl lying on ground, crying for help. She was rushed to the civil hospital soon after.
Acting on the complaint of the girl’s mother, the police on Tuesday arrested Rajeev and 2 others. Police station in-charge Jatinder Kumar informed that after recording Rajeev’s statements, accused Amit alias Chetu, Jatinder alias Joginder were arrested from the locality. Another accused, Bunty, is still at large. During interrogation they confessed to having raped the girl. Bunty raped the girl first and then Amit, while Joginder was unable to do so, they said.
A case has been registered under Section 376 of the IPC and provisions of the POCSO Act.
