A petition seeking a special probe has been filed before the Punjab and Haryana High Court to investigate the Amritsar train accident. The petitioner, a Gurugram-based lawyer, has demanded a CBI probe or formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The court has been requested to look into the reasons and fix responsibility for the train mishap.

The matter will be taken up in the Punjab and Haryana High Court tomorrow i.e. Tuesday.

The petitioner Dinesh Kumar Dakoria, through his counsel Shashak Deo Sudh, claimed that the state police should have registered an FIR. The organisers should have been questioned for organising such an event “irresponsibly” adjacent to Joda Phatak.

According to the petition, no one is taking blame for the mishap. The issue of the socio-economic condition of the families of the victims has also been raised in the petition.

Over 60 people lost their lives as a train run over many spectators watching Dusshera festivities on Friday. Meanwhile, many eye-witnesses have raised questions over the train driver’s account that a mob had started pelting stones due to which he did not stop the train and took to the first station to inform the authorities.
