Posters showing Punjab cabinet minister Navjot Singh Sidhu hugging Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa cropped up in Ludhiana and Amritsar on Wednesday. Some of the posters also show a pair of hands stained with blood.
Navjot Singh Sidhu has been termed a ‘Tout’ in these posters which are dotting Ludhiana and Amritsar. They seem to have come up in the aftermath of his comments on the Pulwama attack. It is still unclear as to who pasted the posters.
Earlier in the day, the Shiromani Akali Dal raised a demand in the Vidhan Sabha seeking the House to adopt a resolution condemning Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan. The demand was turned down by the Speaker following which the SAD members moved out of the House.
On Monday, the Speaker had asked the Marshals to escort SAD-BJP members out of the House after they entered the Well raising slogans against Sidhu. The SAD-BJP MLAs had pictures of Sidhu hugging Bajwa and demanded Sidhu’s resignation. The Congress leader also entered into an ugly spat with SAD leader Bikram Singh Majithia inside the House.
Sidhu had visited Pakistan to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Imran Khan as Prime Minister on August 18 last year. He courted controversy when he hugged Pakistan Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa during the ceremony.
While reacting to the Pulwama attack, in which 40 CRPF personnel lost their lives, Sidhu had said, “Terrorism has no religion and no country”.
