The Hush Post: In a big development, the Bathinda Convention of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) declared the Punjab unit of the party autonomous.

The Bathinda Convention was held in Bathinda as the volunteers’ convention and was attended by seven AAP legislators including Sukhpal Singh Khaira, who was recently removed as the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Punjab and another MLA Harpal Cheema was appointed as LoP in his place. AAP volunteers in big numbers attended this convention.

Alongside declaring the Punjab unit as autonomous, the Bathinda Convention of AAP Punjab dissolved all structures of the party in the state, indicating a division in the party.

It was, in fact, a show of strength by Sukhpal Khaira after he was removed by the party high command. Six other MLAs attended the convention.

Addressing the convention, Sukhpal Khaira declared the Punjab unit of AAP would be a part of the Third Front against the Congress and the SAD-BJP alliance in the state.

At this convention six resolutions were passed. It was also decided to call a meeting of legislators in Chandigarh next week to chart out the autonomous unit’s future course of action.

On the other hand, AAP’s new Lop Harpal Singh Cheema said that the crowd for the convention was mobilised by Lok Insaaf Party’s Bains brothers.

Earlier on Thursday, 11 AAP MLAs reached Delhi to meet Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia in protest contrary to what they had earlier said that they wanted to meet Bhagwant Mann. Seven of the party’s 20 MLAs openly rebelled against this decision, and later announced the volunteers’ convention.
