Congress finalizes six candidates for Punjab; Pawan Bansal to contest from Chandigarh

The Congress has finalized the candidates for six of the 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab. The AICC also has zeroed in on its candidate from Chandigarh.

According to media reports, former Railways Minister Pawan Kumar Bansal will contest from Chandigarh Lok Sabha constituency. Bansal has reportedly pipped Navjot Kaur Sidhu for the Congress ticket from the UT.

In Punjab, Santokh Singh Chaudhary will again fight the election from Jalandhar Lok Sahba seat. He is the sitting MP from Jalandhar.

Punjab Congress chief Sunil Jakhar will contest from Gurdaspur. Jakhar had won the by-poll, necessitated by the death of Vinod KHanna in 2017, defeating BJP’s Swaran Salaria.

From Amritsar, the Congress is again banking on its sitting MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla. Aujla had won the by poll after Capt. Amarinder Singh relinquished it in 2017.

Likewise, the Congress has retained its MP from Ludhiana. Ravneet Singh Bittu will again seek a re-election this time.

In Patiala, former union minister Preneet Kaur will contest on Congress ticket. She had lost the elections in 2014 to AAP’s Dr. Dharamvir Gandhi.

The AICC has decided to field Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal from Hoshiarpur.  Dr. Chabbewal is currently represents the Hoshiarpur (SC) assembly constituency. The reserved constituency has union minister Vijay Sampla as its sitting MP.
