Congress woman thrashed by party leader; AAP, SAD come in her support, 9 booked

The Hush Post, Raniwalah (Tarn Taran): The local police have booked nine persons, including some Congress workers, for allegedly thrashing a woman by a Congress leader in presence of an ASI. However, no arrests have been made so far. Also a case against AAP workers have been filed on a complaint of a Congress workers. The victim is also stated to be a member of the ruling Congress party.

A dalit woman from village Raniwalah in Tarn Taran was allegedly beaten up and physically abused by Congress leader Nishan Singh, a close associate of Khadoor Sahib MLA Ramanjit Singh Sikki. The incident was captured by AAP worker Avtar Singh Matharu on his mobile phone who also was allegedly thrashed by Congressmen. It is reported that the whole incident took place in presence of an assistant sub inspector (ASI) Tarlochan Singh from Chohla Sahib police station.

The video of the incident went viral on social media after which Leader of Opposition in Punjab Assembly, Sukhpal Singh Khaira paid a visit to the victim’s family. Khaira accused the ruling Congress of committing atrocities on dalits and shielding the goons. Khaira said that the he would raise the matter in the Assembly.

Meanwhile, former Khadoor Sahib MLA and SAD leader Ravinder Singh Brahmpura sided with the victim’s family and accused Ramanjit Singh Sikki of harbouring criminals. Brahmpura said that Nishan Singh has a number of cases registered against him and has spent two years in jail in a rape case.

The police have booked Nishan Singh and his associates in the case. Additionally, the police have registered a case against AAP workers Palwinder Singh Happy, Sarabjit Singh Shabba, Harbhej Singh Bheja, Jasbir Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Kala Singh and others on the statement of Nishan Singh’s close associate Bichitar Singh. Bichitar Singh has accused the aforementioned persons of attacking his brother-in-law with a knife.

ASP Darshan Singh said that ASI Tarlochan Singh has been shifted to Police Lines and the matter has been handed over to DSP Satpal Singh.
