Delhi woman arrested for posing as IPS officer in Kharar

Posing as a woman IPS officer, the police have arrested a woman residing in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi, for allegedly cheating people. Her accomplice, a Kharar resident, was also arrested.
The Kharar City police have registered a case against Tanishka Sagbanand her accomplice Tarun Sharma.
According to the police, the woman is 28 years old and is a post graduate in English. She appeared for the Civil Services exam, but could not clear it.
ASI Avtar Singh, in-charge of the Sunny Enclave police post, was at Nijjar Chowk, Mundi Kharar, around 9.30 pm on Monday night. According to a news report, he got a tip-off that a fake woman IPS officer was moving in the area along with another person.
They were asking people to bring Rs 20 lakh for recruitment in the Punjab Police. The duo also tried to convince them for a job as a senior officer with the Central Government.
The imposter woman reportedly called up senior officials of Mohali district. She told them that she was posted in Delhi and she had to go to Sangrur for an inspection. She demanded that a car be arranged for her, as per the news report.
The police, who already had a tip-off, laid a trap and both of them were arrested from Arya College Road.
She failed to produce any identity card when the police confronted her. Further probe led to the confirmation that no IPS officer with this name was posted there.
