Two men were killed at a marriage function in Doraha, Ludhiana when a former sarpanch of Dhandhra village allegedly opened fire on Wednesday evening. The sarpanch too was injured in the incident.
The deceased have been identified as 28-year-old Gurpreet Singh and 50-year-old Balwant Singh, both from Dhandhra in Ludhiana.
Former sarpanch Jagjit Singh reportedly shot at two persons while the show of Punjabi singer Babbu Mann was on at the wedding palace, Kashmir Gardens. The injured were taken to Rajwant Hospital. They were later referred to Apollo Hospital. However, they succumbed to their injuries.
The alleged accused was seen rushing out in an injured condition from the palace after the incident.
The police have launched a massive hunt for the accused. Some personal enmity was the reason behind the incident.
Payal DSP Hardeep Singh Cheema said, “The accused was attending the party with his family. During a discussion with the victims, the issue suddenly heated up and the accused opened fire at them. As the people nearby tried to intervene, the accused too was injured in the process.”
