As per police, the wife of the priest is the main accused of using torn pages of the scriptures for wrapping chapatis for the lunch of their sons in school tiffin
The Hush Post: A sacrilege case has been reported from Ferozepur where the granthi of a gurdwara and his wife have been arrested for allegedly desecrating the scriptures by using its pages to wrap the chapatis in the school tiffin boxes of their two children.
According to the police, the wife of the priest is the main accused of using torn pages of the scriptures for wrapping chapatis in the tiffin boxes of their sons in school, a report said.
The Sikh Student Federation (Mehta) first investigated the matter after coming to know about the incident and then brought it in the notice of the police.
Sikh Students Federation (Mehta) president Jaspal Singh reportedly said their union was informed that the two children of Gurdit Singh, who performs duties as “granthi” in a local gurdwara, were bringing food to the school, wrapped in torn pages of the scriptures, the report said.
“Later, we found the torn pages scattered near the school. When we visited the priest’s residence in Bagh Wali Basti on Alike Road, several more such pages were found in the kitchen, apparently meant to wrap food items on daily basis,” Jaspal Singh was quoted as saying in the report.
Station House Officer (SHO) of the City police station Jasbir Singh reportedly said the granthi Gurdit Singh and his wife Nimrat Kaur have been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the basis of the complaint lodged by the student union members, it was reported.
SHO Jasbir Singh said the granthi and his wife have been arrested and further investigations are on, the report said.
