The Hush Post: Four persons died while 11 others sustained serious injuries on inhaling ammonia gas at one of the food processing units near Rajpura in Patiala. The mishap occurred at the Himalaya Fresh Protein Factory Pvt Limited located on the Shambhu-Ghanaur Road at around 1:30 am.
Four persons are said to be critical and have been admitted to the government Rajendra Hospital . Eight of the injured worked at the same factory unit, while the others were living in the surrounding areas.
According to the villagers they heard a blast during the wee hours of Tuesday morning. News of the ammonia leak spread to the nearby villages, following which the villagers moved away from the unit where the incident had occurred. Before the gas leaked to the surrounding areas, one of the cylinder’s filled with ammonia might have exploded inside the food processing unit, police said.
Services of the central force National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has been requisitioned by the state government to take over the rescue operations.
