Congress MLA fails dope test in Punjab, says was on medicines to ‘relax his mind’

His urine sample turned out to be positive for Benzodiazepine, a psychoactive drug normally used for treating anxiety.

The Hush Post: While many of the Congress leaders and MLAs had voluntarily opted for the dope test as envisaged by chief minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, it finally seems they failed to gauge its implications. In a major embarrassment to his government, Chaudhary Surinder Singh, the Congress MLA from Kartarpur has failed the dope test.

This is the first such instance in the state when a sitting MLA has been found positive in a dope test. Surinder Singh had given his samples for drug screening on Sunday afternoon. On Tuesday, when his urine sample was tested, it turned out to be positive for Benzodiazepine, a psychoactive drug normally used for treating anxiety.

Though, Surinder Singh was quick to clear the air. He stated that he had taken a drug named Restyl to ‘relax his mind’ and has doctor’s prescription for the same.

It is to be noted that consumption of even a simple cough syrup can lead to dope test failure.
