Five more students arrested in Jalandhar with links to terror outfits

Five more students have been arrested in Jalandhar as a fallout of Wednesday’s arrest of three students belonging to Jammu & Kashmir. They were arrested from a hostel room from CT Institute, Shahpur, in Jalandhar. NIA (National Investigative Agency) and RAW team has already reached Jalandhar and are interrogating the arrested persons.

According to sources, their target was Jyoti Chowk in Jalandhar and other crowded areas during Diwali.

Gazi Ahmad Malik, a resident of Shopian, J&K, was recently picked-up by Punjab Police from Banur, Patiala, where he was studying in Aryans Group Polytechnic College.

It was learnt that Gazi was closely related to Adil Bashir Sheikh, a J&K Police SPO. Sheikh had fled with 7 rifles from the residence of PDP MLA in Srinagar. He was suspected to have joined militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen. He was later handed over to the J&K Police for further investigations.

Three students from Jammu & Kashmir, out of whom two were students of CT Institute, Shahur, Jalandhar, were arrested yesterday. Arms and ammunition were recovered from their hostel room.

One student, Zahid Gulzar, arrested yesterday is a resident of Rajpora in Srinagar. Two others in his room at the time are from Pulwama. Mohammed Idriss Shah alias Nadeem, is a BSc (medical lab science) student at the nearby St Soldier Management. However, Yusuf Rafiq Bhatt is a B Tech student of the CT Institute.

The three are suspected to be linked to terror outfit Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGH), according to Punjab director general of police Suresh Arora.
