The convicted man was working as computer teacher with a private school in Khanna
The Hush Post, Ludhiana: A local court in Ludhiana has sentenced a computer teacher for 5-years rigorous imprisonment after convicting him in a case of sexual harassment of a minor girl student.
The court of Additional Sessions Judge (ASJ) Jagdeep Kaur Virk convicted one Avtar Singh, a resident of Khanna with a jail term of five years and has also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 for sexually harassing a 13-year-old girl student in a private school in Khanna town. The accused was working as a computer teacher at a private school situated in Khanna.
According to the prosecution, on May 03, 2014, an FIR was registered at Khanna police station against the accused under section 7, 8, 11 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and under section 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on the complaint of victim’s mother.
The complainant said that her 13-year-old daughter was studying in class seventh and was promoted from class sixth standard a few days ago. On April 25, 2014, the complainant’s daughter complained of some problem and when the mother asked her daughter the girl told that while she was in the sixth standard, the accused computer teacher has sexually harassed her many times and he has also threatened her that if she complains to anyone about his acts, he would fail her from sixth standard class.
After coming to know about the whole incident, complainant along with her husband complained the matter to the principal of the school, but the principal did not take any action against the accused.
The defence lawyer of accused claimed in the court that accused is innocent and has been falsely implicated in this case. After going through the detailed proceedings, witnesses, evidence and arguments of both the defence and prosecution side, the court found the teacher guilty and convicted accordingly.
