Punjab DGP orders inquiry into “missing” Rs 6.6 Cr recovered from Church priest

Director General of Police, Punjab, Dinkar Gupta ordered an inquiry into misappropriation of Rs 6.6 crores on Monday. The money was seized by Khanna police at the Jalandhar residence of a Catholic Church priest.

It is learnt, the inquiry has been marked to IGP crime Parveen Sinha.
Father Anthony Madasserry, the priest of Jalandhar Diocese of RC church had levelled allegations of misappropriation of Rs. 6.6 crore against Khanna Police.

RS Khatra, DIG Ludhiana police range had reported the matter to DIG and requested him to conduct a high level inquiry.
After raiding the residence of the priest, Khanna police seized Rs 16 crore but showed only Rs 9.66 crores.

Also, he had claimed that the money was genuine collection of his business. The Father While the officials of the South Indian Bank whad complained that the money was totally accounted for and not hawala money as reported earlier.
