The Hush Post, Khanna: The Punjab State Information Commission (PSIC) has directed the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Khanna Municipal Council (MC) to appear before it on September 10 in connection with an application under the Right To Information (RTI) filed by the RTI Cell of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regarding some affairs of the Khanna MC.
In a recent order, the PSIC has directed the Khanna MC PIO to appear in person before the Commission and in case there are any compelling circumstances, the PIO may depute the AMC or a representative who should be duly authorized and should be well conversant with the facts of the case. The Commission said that in case an APIO is representing the PIO at the time of the hearing, his version and statements made before the Commission shall be treated as if made by the PIO and the latter will be responsible for their correctness and fulfillment.
The Commission has further directed the PIO to file a written reply before the next date of hearing, with an advance copy to the complainant/ appellant. The written reply shall be duly signed by the PIO and shall disclose his name and designation of the PIO and the First Appellate Authority. The Commission has said in case the PIO fails to respond to this notice, further orders will be passed in his absence.
Addressing a press conference on Thursday, BJP’s RTI Cell President Satish Sharma said that their Cell had filed an RTI application before the Khanna MC on November 18, 2017, and an appeal for the same was filed on November 28, 2017, seeking information and documents about public notices. But the Khanna MC did not give them this information and documents. Besides, on December 22, 2017, the BJP’s RTI Cell had filed another application for seeking information about the officials deputed on the Disposals falling under the Khanna MC limits. And an appeal in this connection was filed on March 23, 2018, but no information was provided by the Khanna MC, Satish Sharma said.
The BJP leader said that finally, they approached the Punjab State Information Commission and the Commission has issued the above order to the Public Information Officer (PIO) of the Khanna MC.
