Khanna Police solve old blind murder; it was a case of honour killing

The police arrest one Mohan Singh of Lopon village with whose daughter the deceased allegedly had illicit relations

SK Shourie, Khanna: With the arrest of a person, the Khanna Police claimed to have solved a blind murder of a resident of Lopon village near Samrala about two-and-a-half-years ago.

The police said it was an honour killing case due to illicit relations of the deceased with the minor daughter of the accused. The deceased had been identified as Gurdeep Singh, a resident of Lopon village near Samrala.

The accused has been identified as Mohan Singh, also a resident of Lopon village.

Addressing a press conference, Khanna SSP Dhruv Dahiya said that a youth of the village was found dead under mysterious circumstances on November 22, 2015 and later Samrala Police had registered a case of murder on October 11, 2016 under sections 302 read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The SSP said that a special team of police including SP (I) Jasvir Singh, DSP Samrala Harsimrat Singh and SHO Samrala Bhupinder Singh after thoroughly investigating the case and through secret information the police arrested one Mohan Singh in this murder.

SSP Dahiya said that the arrested person has confessed in his preliminary interrogation that that the deceased was his neighbour and was married but he had lured his daughter who was minor at that time. Mohan Singh said that he had also told the parents of the deceased and even told Gurdeep Singh to desist from luring his minor daughter but Gurdeep Singh did not mend his ways.

The SSP said when Gurdeep Singh did not stop then Mohan Singh called him and took him towards their fields. Mohan Singh stated that at that time Gurdeep Singh was drunk and Mohan Singh again warned him to desist from his nefarious acts but Gurdeep Singh threatened him that he will not desist and he will make public the nude photos of his girl. Mohan Singh in a fit of anger took out a telephone wire and tied it on the neck of Gurdeep and Gurdeep died. Later Mohan Singh took out the body of the deceased and threw it in front of his house and tied a cloth on his neck.

As per SSP the alleged accused was produced in a court on Monday from where he was sent in police reamnd for one day for further legal action in this regard. SP (Headquarters) Khanna Balwinder Singh Bhikhi and other concerned officials were also present in the press conference.
