Ludhiana court gives 10-year imprisonment to drug peddler from Khanna

The GRP Police Khanna had arrested the accused with 2200 tablet of Lomotil

The Hush Post, Ludhiana: A local court in Ludhiana has awarded 10-years imprisonment to a drug peddler after holding him guilty in a case registered under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Varinder Aggarwal convinced one Baljit Singh, a resident of village Rahon tehsil Khanna and awarded him a sentence of 10 years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs One lakh on the charges of medical drug smuggling. The Government Railway Police (GRP) Khanna had arrested the accused with 2200 tablet of Lomotil.

According to the prosecution, on July 28, 2017, the GRP Police Sirhind registered an FIR under section 22 of NDPS Act. According to the police, on the day about 11 am, at platform number one of the railway station Khanna, the accused was nabbed due his doubtful activities and during investigation, a black plastic bag was recovered from the accused. In the said plastic bag, 2200 tablets of Lomotil were recovered. According to the defence counsel, accused was falsely implicated in the case. After going through the detailed proceedings witnesses, evidence and arguments, the court found him guilty and convicted accordingly.
