Mohinder Pal Singh Bittu, a member of the political committee of Dera Sacha Sauda and the kingpin of the sacrilege incidents in Punjab, was found murdered in Nabha Jail today. A resident of Kotkapura in Faridkot, Bittu was among 16 other Dera followers who were arrested in connection with the theft of Guru Granth Sahib and sacrilege incidents. He was the only one who was lodged in jail while others are out on bail.

Bittu’s elder brother Prem Manchanda said he had met him in the jail earlier today. Mohinder Pal Bittu didn’t mention any threat to his life at that point of time.

Jumping into action ADGP Jails has left for Nabha on the orders of Jail minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa. The members of the Dera’s political committee too have left for Nabha.

Notably, Dera Sirsa head Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s name also figures in the charge sheet of the SIT which is probing the desecrations incidents in Punjab. A team of Punjab police had gone to Sunaria jail in Rohtak, where Ram Rahim is incarcerated, to question him in connection with the sacrilege probe, but had to return empty-handed as Rohtak DC didn’t provide the requisite permission.

Meanwhile, Gurmeet Ram Rahim has sought parole from the Sunaria jail authorities for ‘agricultural activites’. The jail administration is yet to grant him parole.
