LUDHIANA MC POLLS: 59.1 % votes polled; Firing in BRS Nagar; Cong, Akalis blame it on each other

The Hush Post: Two factions of Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal allegedly exchanged fire near DAV school, BRS Nagar, Ludhiana. According to the complaint filed by Congress candidate Amrit varsha Rampal there was firing by Akali youth. As per her complaint, about 50 people fired 10 to 12 rounds and also broke three vehicles. However, Akali workers have alleged that Congress workers tried to squeeze them in from two sides as a result they ran for safety. On the reverse, they have alleged that it is Congress which fired at them. Meanwhile, the police is investigating the matter and one youth has been apprehended.

Meanwhile, 59.1 per cent people polled votes in the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation polls.  There were mild clashes between party workers as the polling began today. Due to a mild drizzle voter turnout at 10 am was recorded at 11 per cent. However, towards the evening people started trickling into the queue to vote. However, the overall polling was dismal.

In the evening, there were reports of fresh clashes and one journalist called Hemraj Babbar was assaulted by masked men in many dozens.  A total of 494 candidates are in contention for which 10.50 lakh voters were to poll votes. The results would be out on February 27.
