A Ludhiana court Wednesday sentenced 7 convicts to life imprisonment in a murder case. The court of Additional Sessions Judge also imposed a fine of Rs 25 thousand each on the convicts.

Kurukshetra resident Manish Maharan, Pataiala residents- Lakhbir Singh aka Lucky, Sanjeev Kumar aka Sanju, Sukhwinder Singh aka Ladi, Jagdeep Singh aka Raju and Saurabh Kumar aka Sunder; and Dugri Ludhiana resident Jagdish Kumar were found guilty of murdering a teenager in 2012.

The case was registered on the complaint of Kuldeep Singh, the father of the deceased, on March 22, 2012. The complaint read that Kuldeep Singh’s youngest son, Pradeep Singh had dropped out of school after class VIII and had started working in the fields. He had stated Jagdish Kumar, one of the convicts, suspected that Pradeep had an affair with his daughter. Jagdish even threatened Kuldeep, a PS Sadar resident in Ludhiana, of dire consequences if he is unable to rein in his son.

On the night of March 21, 2012, Kuldeep Singh was sleeping at his home along with his family members. On hearing some noise, his wife opened the door following which 5-6 armed men forcibly entered the house. They beat up the complainant’s son and took him along with them in a vehicle.  The body of the child was found from Ropar district the next day.
