The Hush Post: Another major fire in Ludhiana, this time in Ganesh Knitwears located in Manmohan Colony, Bahadurke road could have added to the tragedy of what happened about a week ago, had the workers not made self improvised ropes out of clothes to rescue themselves and their families. The fire broke out at 11:00pm on Friday when more than 25 workers and their families were inside the factory on the third floor and the fourth floor.
One of the workers, Vinod Kumar suffered minor burn injuries while trying to reach out to his family on the fourth floor. When the fire broke out, the factory workers had to slide down through a devised rope made by tying clothes from the fourth floor. The fire started and leapt up on the third floor. As a result, the workers started panicking and tried to reach to their families on the floor above where women and children were asleep. After reaching the fourth floor, the workers saved their children by tying each children with one adult, who then slid down the rope made by tying clothes down the window. Those who were saved included Sheetla Prasad, Suman Devi, Parul, Raju, Swaran Kumar, and three-year-old Rudraksh.
It took about 15 fire brigade tenders to extinguish the fire at 5:00 am. According to the sources, raw material and machinery worth Rs one crore has been destroyed. Notably, this is a residential area and there are about 40 to 50 industrial units here.
