The Hush Post: Allegedly betrayed by his girlfriend, a youth committed suicide by hanging himself to a ceiling fan. 22-yr-old Mandeep Singh of Vidya Nagar Kaheri area in the city had an affair with a girl who, according to his parents, was harassing him for a long time. Mandeep’s parents allege that the girl had borrowed a sum of Rs 3.5 lakh from him, which she had refused to return. The police have filed a case against the girl and some others on the complaint of Mandeep’s mother, Mahinder Kaur. The girl hails from Badrukhan in Sangrur and is pursuing a B Sc degree in Ludhiana.
Mandeep was the youngest of three siblings in his family. One of his elder sisters resides in New Zealand while another is an officer in the Forest Department. His father Nirmal Singh is a bank employee in Sangrur.
Mandeep and the accused girl were school-time friends and their relation had developed into a love affair. The family was also aware of their relationship. It is known that when the girl started harassing Mandeep, the couple was separated through a panchayat settlement. Nirmal Singh alleges that this did not deter the girl and she still continued to torment Mandeep. He says, that Mandeep received a lot of calls on January 22 and he stood awake all the night. Next day, January 23, he committed suicide.
The police complaint says that the girl owed Rs 3.5 lakh to Mandeep which he had given her during the affair. It is still unclear as to why the money was given. Police is investigating into the matter.
