The Hush Post: Here is a strange offer made by Ludhiana East MLA Sanjay Talwar to the Congress councillors from Ludhiana. He has offered a trip to any part of the world, such as Dubai, to the councillor who helps Ludhiana MP Ravneet Singh Bittu get maximum votes from his ward in the General Elections 2019.
Now, this definitely would pit one against the other in garnering more votes for Bittu and could raise the bar among councillors and workers. But it raises a question.
The question is, does it fall under ethical means of political conduct and could such an offer fall under the election code of conduct and thus would such a trip be chargeable under the expenses to fight elections by spending money.
It is pertinent to mention here that 62 of the 95 councillors in Ludhiana belong to the Congress outfit and represent more than 12 lakh people of urban Ludhiana.
In 2014 general elections, Ravneet Singh Bittu won a four-cornered contest by a margin of 19,000 votes from his nearest rival HS Phoolka of the Aam Aadmi Party.
Bittu is a political heir of former Chief Minister of Punjab Beant Singh.
