Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu was the SP (Vigilance), Ludhiana when filed an FIR into the matter on March 23, 2007.
Munish Purang, The Hush Post: The former cop who had filed the FIR in the alleged multi-crore Ludhiana City Centre scam, involving Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh, today moved a local court seeking police protection fearing for his life. “Threatened of being involved(sic) in false criminal cases and threat to his life”, former SSP (Vigilance), Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu filed a petition in the court of Ludhiana District and Sessions Judge, Gurbir Singh. Sandhu was the SP (Vigilance), Ludhiana when an FIR into the matter was filed on March 23, 2007.
The petition comes in the wake of the Vigilance Bureau filing a cancellation report in the court in connection with the matter. The hearing in the matter is pending as of now and arguments are yet to take place.
Sandhu had pleaded that the court take up his application in the case before passing any order on the cancellation report and provide him a copy of cancellation report along with annexed documents. He alleged that he was being pressurised to help in getting the cancellation of this case.
Alleging that former chief minister Prakash Singh Badal was in cahoots with Capt. Amrinder Singh, Kanwarjit Singh Sandhu said in his plea that, “both Captain Amrinder Singh Chief Minister of Punjab and S. Prakash Singh Badal former Chief Minister and his family had joined hands and were out and out trying to scuttle judicial process by diluting the cases of corruption involving thousands of crores of rupees.”
He further said, “Not only this they are using blatant misuse of their power to threat and intimidate public servants who in their due process of duty had investigated the cases against them and unearthed criminal conspiracy of corruption, bribery and amassing wealth”.
Sandhu said that under the Chief Ministership of S.Parkash Singh Badal “majority of the witnesses resiled from their statements” and, “process of cancellation was started during the chief ministership of S.Parkash Singh Badal”.
The petition stated that Sandhu had “clearly refused that how can he accept a position against his own investigation and evidence brought on the file. Resultantly, he is being threatened with a false criminal cases”.
Citing examples of his fellow officers, Sandhu said that threats were not false as, “another investigating officer Surjit Singh Grewal, who assisted the complainant (Sandhu) in investigating this case, while being posted as SP(Vigilance) at Ludhiana under the petitioner at the relevant time, has been booked in a false criminal case of disproportionate assets only because he refused to appear in Court and depose in favour of accepting cancellation report and is presently in judicial custody. Similarly Shri Shiv Kumar SSP vigilance, Patiala at the relevant time who had investigated disproportionate assets cases and case of floating fictitious company has been booked in a criminal case”.
Sandhu, in his petition, termed that case as “a classical case when people in authority holding highest post of chief minister have used the machinery to cause loss to the state for their personal benefit by means of corruption”.
It is pertinent to note that the Vigilance Bureau had flayed its earlier inquiry in a closure report submitted to the court last year.
