Internet services shut down

The Hush Post: Punjab government has shutdown internet services in five districts of the state.

The internet services have been shut down in Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur. The decision was taken after the death of one of the protesters Yashwant Bobby, who received head injuries while participating in a protest for the naming of a chowk in Phagwara as Ambedkar chowk.

Jaswant was subsequently admitted to DMC Ludhiana a couple of days ago. However, he died last night. His body was dispatched in the morning from the hospital to his hometown, Phagwara.

Due to his death and anticipating that situation may turn violent, security has been beefed up in Ludhiana’s Jalandhar bypass and Basti Jodhewal Chowk. Also, the internet services have been closed.

To ensure peace particularly in the town of Phagwara, the vehicles are not being allowed to be ferried or driven through the highway.
