The Hush Post, Ludhiana: A labourer was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his rented accommodation in Manmohan Colony on the Bahadurke Road in wee hours on Thursday.
The labourer’s body was hanging from a hook in the ceiling of the room. The room was locked from the inside. But the police also found slit marks on the neck of the deceased.
The police suspect that the labourer tried to slit his neck with some sharp-edged weapon before hanging self, but the police have not ruled out murder. The police have been awaiting family members of the deceased to record their statement for further action.
The deceased has been identified as Ramesh Kumar, a 26-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh. He was living in the city in a rented accommodation.
His neighbour alerted the landlord when he found that lights of the rooms were switched on, but Ramesh Kumar was not responding after persistent knocking on the door. The landlord sounded police following which police officials broke open the door, bolted from inside, in the wee hours on Thursday.
The police found the lifeless body of deceased hanging with a hook on the ceiling. The police also found some marks of slitting on his throat. According to the neighbours deceased, Ramesh hardly talked to anyone.
Basti Jodhewal SHO Madhvi Sharma said that it is suspected that Ramesh Kumar has tried to slit his throat before hanging self. She said the room was bolted from inside and there is no other door and window to enter the room. However, the police have been investigating it from murder angle too.
She further added that the family of the deceased has been informed and his kin have been expected to reach here shortly. The police will take appropriate action after recording their statement.
