The Hush Post: This is what happens when an ‘underage’ person drives a vehicle, and when the cops try to tame him down, in a flurry he or she doesn’t know what to do.

In brazen disregard for the system and the police and in an act of immaturity and bafflement , a teenager driving a merc tried to run over the car on a Home Guard cop on traffic duty, when the cop tried to stop him and told him to park it on one side so that he could check his papers and credentials. The driver had been stopped for jumping the red light.

ADCP (Traffic) Sukhpal Singh Brar told a news daily, “When the Home Guard blocked its path on seeing the car driver jump the red light, instead of halting, the driver slowed down the car and tried to run him over. The policeman jumped onto the bonnet to save himself and stop the car, suffering minor head injuries”.

The incident happened at peak rush hours at about 6:30 in the evening at one of the landmarks of Ludhiana, Hero Bakery chowk on Pakhowal Road, in the heart of the city.

The car, registered in the name of Rajesh Khaneja, bearing registration number  PB-08-BL-0941 has been impounded.

The traffic wing’s Home Guard Surinder Singh suffered minor head injuries and was admitted to a nearby private hospital. “There is no outer injury but a detailed examination to check for any internal injuries will be done,” the doctor attending on him said.

The police is yet to verify the age of the driver. No FIR had been registered so far.

There have been many instances in different parts of the country when such brazen attempts to disregard the laws, rules and regulations have been made, but people ignore them, little realising that they are made for their safety. Driving below the age of 18 is illegal.
