Four persons have died due to asphyxiation (suffocation) as a result of a major fire in Ludhiana.

The fire engulfed Kalra Hosiery unit of Bajwa Nagar, Ludhiana. It broke out in the wee hours of Tuesday. The fire started at about 4:25 am. Immediately, the fire brigade was called but by then four worker had lost their lives. The firemen could control fire only by 6:30 am.

As a result of this fire, there has been loss worth lakhs of rupees apart from lives lost. Why could the workers not make an exit has not been ascertained yet.
