Councillor Nittu’s son Sunny sent to 4 day police custody, next hearing on July 27

Munish Purang, The Hush Post: Congress councillor Gurdip Singh Nitu’s son Jatinder Singh Sunny who was arrested yesterday has been given four-days police custody.

The police sought seven-day police custody but were granted remand uptill July 27, when he will have to be presented again in the court.

Two days after a 22-year-old youth Jagdeep Singh Rinkle was beaten to death, Congress councillor Gurdip Singh Nitu’s son Jatinder Singh Sunny was arrested on Sunday. Meanwhile, the councillor has also been named in the FIR along with nine others.

Earlier, the family refused to cremate the body warning the police that if action was not taken within 24 hours they would sit on a dharna in front of the chief minister’s office with the dead body.

Sunny had earlier also made attempts on his life on February 24 and then again on March 7.

According to Rinkle’s family members, he had complained to the police each time he was attacked by Sunny, but the police did not take any action. Gurwinder Singh, SHO, Division No. 2 police station has been suspended.

Rinkle succumbed to injuries at a private hospital on Thursday night after Sunny and nine of his accomplices entered his house and thrashed him with iron rods in Amarpura.

Rinkle was alone at home when Sunny and his friends entered the house. Rinkle and his mother were away to the market and neighbours informed them over the phone that about 8-10 people had entered his house and were beating Rinkle.

Rivalry between Rinkle and Sunny dates back to 2017 Punjab Assembly elections when Rinkle worked for the BJP candidate.
