Ludhiana rural police holds seminar on drug abuse

People discuss their problems with Ludhiana Rural SSP Surjit Singh at a seminar held in Jagraon, on Sunday.

The Hush Post, Jagraon: Full public support is needed to curb the menace of drugs completely from the society and people should stop criticizing the government, police and authorities and themselves should strengthen themselves to wipe out this evil from our lives.

This was expressed by the speakers at a seminar on drug abuse jointly organized by the Ludhiana Rural police, Punjab Namabardara Union Jagraon and the Sarpanch Association Jagraon at Galib Kalan village near Jagraon on Sunday. Ludhiana Rural Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surjit Singh was the chief guest on this occasion.

Addressing the gathering, Nambardara Union president Parminder Singh Chahal of Galib Kalan said that the people should stop criticizing the government and the police and rather should start working and campaigning to wipe out the drug menace from our lives. He said that the government and police had many other responsibilities and duties to perform thus the people should themselves get together to jointly fight against this evil.

Speaking on this occasion SSP Surjit Singh said that without the support of public, the police cannot do away with the drug peddling. He said that people’s help was needed to curb it. He said like the police were successfully defeated and completely wiped out terrorism from Punjab, with full support of people the evil of drugs can also be uprooted.

The SSP said that initially the police give warning to every minor drug addict but if he does not stop taking drugs, he is dealt with strictly and brought to book.  The SSP hailed the efforts of the Nambardara Union and Sarpanch Association for coming together for this noble cause by organizing such a seminar to make people aware against the drug abuse.

After the seminar, SSP Surjit Singh after the seminar invited the common people to share their problems. Many of them shared the incidents of their children getting addicted to drugs. The SSP assured them that the police would counsel their children and no legal actions will be taken against them but they will be made aware about the ills of drugs and will be admitted to the de-addiction centers.

On this occasion, manager Jaswinder Singh, SHO Jagjeet Singh, ASI Saeed Shakil, Harpreet Singh, Manjeet Singh Gill, Harsimrat Bali, Hari Singh Galib, Chamkaur Singh, Boota Singh, Gurdail Singh, Gurcharn Singh, Jaswant Singh, Kulwant Singh Sherpura and others present.
