After registering a case against the accused woman, Basti Jodhewal Police have started the probe
The Hush Post, Ludhiana: The police have booked a woman for allegedly duping at least 10 people of Rs 30 lakh promising them government jobs. After registering a case against the accused woman, Basti Jodhewal Police have started the probe.
The accused is Shweta Sehgal, a resident of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar in the city. She allegedly impersonated as a college principal along with her accomplices to dupe at least 10 people of Rs 30 lakh. Shweta Sehgal allegedly duped these people on the pretext of helping them get jobs in various government departments.
The police registered an FIR on the complaint of a hosiery owner Abhay Kumar Jain (70), of Atal Nagar. Jain is an astrologer. The accused woman had approached her for some remedies in 2016.
Jain said that the woman claimed that she is a professor at Government College for Women. She added that she has contacts in various departments and she can secure government job for his grandson Akshay Jain.
The complainant added that he spoke to his friend Gopal Krishan Arora about it. Arora also wished to send his son Sunil Kumar Arora to join a government job. The woman took Rs. 10 and 20 lakh from both the families for helping them get government jobs.
“The woman took Akshay and Sunil to various places –including Ambala Cantt Railway Station, Panjab University Chandigarh where they met her accomplices, Manoj Arora and Rupinder Kaur. She neither arranged jobs for them nor returned the money. When we created pressure on her, she gave two cheques to them which were dishonored from the bank for insufficient balance,” Jain alleged.
“We made a complaint to the Director General of Police (DGP) in June 2017. Following an investigation the police have registered a case,” the complainant added.
The police have registered an FIR under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) against the woman. The investigating officer (IO) ASI Nishan Singh said while investigating the case the police came to know that the accused woman has duped several persons on the pretext of helping them government jobs. Three men Jaswant Singh, Baldev Singh and Gurdeep Singh of Patiala Road, Fatehgarh Sahib have also approached police and alleged that the woman has duped them of Rs 13 lakh
The police also came to know that the woman has duped a Bhai Himmat Singh Nagar resident Santam Singh of Rs 2.61 lakh, Kulwant Singh of Rs 80,000, Gurpreet Singh of Rs 1.90 lakh, Kanchan Bala of Rs 1.50 lakh and Sukhdeep Singh of Rs 61,000.
The ASI added that the police have added statements of all victims in the FIR. The police have launched a manhunt to nab the accused woman. He added that more complaints against woman have been expected.
