The Hush Post: Lok Insaaf Party chief and Atamnagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains has received a death threat from Canada. The letter claims that he and his family will be eliminated if he opens his mouth against the drug mafia operating in Punjab.
Meanwhile, Bains has apprised the Commissioner of Police, Ludhiana and the Home Secretary about this threat that he has received. A complaint to this effect has been registered by the police.
This is not the first time that he has received threat to life. Earlier also he received threat calls on mobile phones, however, the police did not investigate any of the matter then.
Bains had made drugs a big issue during Vidhan Sabha elections in 2017 in the state along with the alliance partners Aam Aadmi Party AAP. Though, they could not win the number of seats they had expected.
However, there have been a spate of arrests in the past couple of weeks of drug-dealers in Punjab and many gangsters who thrive on drug-dealing have been arrested. Some of the big names who have been arrested include Dilpreet Singh, from whom drug consignment was also seized at the time of his arrest, which hinted quite clearly that drug-mafia and gangsters were working in tandem in Punjab.
