The Hush Post: After Haryana made it mandatory to record Aadhaar number for registration of sale deeds of immovable properties in October, the Punjab government has closely followed its footsteps. For Aadhaar card linking of sale deeds, the authorities will first link the property with the unique ID of the owner by using the biometric technique and then transfer it to the buyer by entering his unique ID and biometric details. The decision will affect NRIs, corporate houses, business firms, trusts and societies purchasing properties in the state.
Registration of sale deeds of property, transfer of property, registration of wills, marriages, registration of mortgage deeds will require the recording of the Aadhaar number of executants/parties. The order will come into force with immediate effect. Its aim is to curb benami deals in real estate and to stop frauds in property sale and purchase. Aadhaar is already mandatory for the registration of sale deeds of immovable properties in Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Goa.
