The Hush Post, Ludhiana: To usher in Basant through celebration, famous Punjabi Singer Sardool Sikander and his team visited GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sadhar on the invitation of the Department of Music. Lt. General (Retd.) Iqbal Singh Singha, Director of GHG Institutions, Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal and Dr. H.S. Brar, College Registrar extended a warm welcome to Sardool Sikander and his team.
The Basant festivities began with the Lamp Lighting Ceremony; chanting of Saraswati Salokas and Vandanas by the college students followed by a power point presentation throwing light on the inspiring life of Sardool Sikander by Charanjit Kaur, a college student.
Sardool Sikander while addressing the gathering expressed great pleasure in the interest of student towards music and also, enthralled the audience by singing a few verses in his melodious voice based on Basant Raga. He expressed deep concern over the depleting quality of Punjabi songs while appreciating those who were still holding onto the traditional Punjabi values and culture.
Dr. S.S. Deol, Principal, thanked and appreciated the efforts and righteousness of Sardool Sikander and presented him with a shawl, a momento and an appreciation letter. The efforts of Dr. Sonia Ahuja, Head, Department of Music, were also commended. The occasion was also graced by Dr. Balwinderpal Singh, Navdeep Kaur, Prof. Jaswant Singh, Prof. Jasbinder Kaur and Prof. Aarti Sharma.
