The Hush Post: Introducing the people-centric initiative of beat patrolling to ease traffic woes in Punjab’s largest city, the Ludhiana police have tried to usher in the New Year on a positive note. Flagged off by Commissioner of Police (CP) RN Dhoke from the district Police Lines on Friday, an ASI and a Head Constable will travel on each motorcycle. They will be equipped with an alcometer, wireless set, torch, logbook, first-aid kit and hooter among other items. The city has been divided into 25 beats (areas) which will be patrolled by traffic cops on motorcycles reaching up to the inner areas of the city.
They will take action against traffic violations like drunken driving, jumping red-light signal, encroachment in front of shops, unauthorised parking, use of pressure horns, overloaded buses within city routes, disruption of one-way traffic system, etc. They will also coordinate with educational institutions of the respective Beat to solve problem of traffic jam outside their premises at the opening and closing time.
