Congress miffs Jakhar, BJP tries to strike the idiomatic hot iron as it welcomes Jakhar
The Hush Post: Punjab Congress chief, Sunil Jakhar, it seems, again lost out to Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh today who eventually had an upper hand in naming his loyalists into the cabinet. It is learnt that a miffed Jakhar left the meeting room when Capt. Amarinder Singh managed to get his close aide, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodi, into the list of 9 persons to be inducted into the cabinet on Saturday. Jakhar was unflinchingly opposed to Sodhi.
This is not for the first time that Jakhar, agitating against being sneered at, has shown his disapproval of Captain’s demeanour. A glimpse of the simmering discontent between the state party chief and the government chief was witnessed last week too when Jakhar had left the CM’s office in a huff after he was reportedly asked by the security staff to leave his mobile phone outside.
Though the two leaders have from time to time tried to downplay the discord, the BJP seems to be quite interested in scoring some brownie points. Punjab BJP president, Shwait Malik today invited his Congress counterpart, Sunil Jakhar, to come and join his party. Malik was addressing his first press conference in Chandigarh after becoming the state party president.
In a bid to cash-in on the ongoing tussle between the top Congress leaders, Malik ‘took exception’ to the way Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh treated Jakhar, terming it “highly humiliating”. Jakhar should leave the Congress and join the BJP, he offered. Taking a dig at Capt. Amarinder Singh, Malik said that the CM didn’t even have the time to meet his ministers and party leaders, leave aside the common public.
