Explosion takes place in scrap on early Monday morning
The Hush Post, Patiala: A 26-year-old man and a two-year-old child were killed and four minor children got seriously injured when a blast took place in the scrap of a scrap-dealer (kabadi) in a slum here on Monday morning. The injured children were rushed to the hospital in a critical condition.
According to available information the blast took place in a shanty in Baba Bir Singh Dhir Singh colony at about 7.30 am. Accroding to eyewitnesses, there was a loud noise of the blast early in the morning and when the people rushed to the blast site, two persons, including a two-year-old child had died on the spot while four other children got seriously injured. The injured children were rushed to the Government Rajindra Hospital in a critical condition.
According to police sources the deceased have been identified as a 26-year-old man Mumtiyaz and a two-year-old child Saweer. They died immediately on the spot as the blast took place, sources said.
The injured have been identified as Sabbu (1), Babbu (3), Afreen (8) and Noor-e-Hasan (8). They were rushed to the Government Rajindra Hospital.
Sources said that the shanty where the blast took place is a residence come store house of scraps. Sources said the blast might have occurred in some explosive that might have found its way in the form of scrap. However, till the filing of this report the police had not ascertained that what had caused the explosion.
Immediately after receiving the information police parties rushed to the spot to investigate the matter. Soon senior civil and police officials also reached the spot. The Patiala Deputy Commissioner (DC) and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) also reached the spot to take a stock of the situation. Later Patiala Mayor Sanjeev Sharma Bittu and senior Congress leader and PRTC Chairman KK Sharma also reached the spot.
It is pertinent to mention here that recently in another blast in another area of Patiala a youth had died when the boiler exploded in an oil extraction factory.
